Every Easter, Christians celebrate more than a miracle. We celebrate a coronation.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is not merely the happy ending to a sad story. It is the public declaration that Jesus is Lord.
Not Caesar.
Not the state.
Not a court.
Not the spirit of the age.
Christ alone.
And here is why that matters.
When Jesus was crucified, it appeared that the rulers of this world had won.
Religious leaders manipulated the crowds.
Pontius Pilate bent to political pressure.
Roman power did what it had always done. It made a public example of anyone who threatened its authority.
The cross looked like the triumph of raw power over truth.
But Easter morning exposed all of that as an illusion.
Jesus rose from the dead. In doing so, He shattered the claim of every earthly throne to ultimate authority. The resurrection was heaven’s declaration that no ruler, no regime, and no government stands above the authority of the risen Christ.
The men who condemned Him sat in judgment for a few hours. He reigns forever.
That truth matters for all Christians. It has particular importance for those of us laboring in the public square.
At Wyoming Family Alliance, our work often takes place in the realm of laws, policy, institutions, and public debates.
That world can be discouraging at times. Courts can overstep. Lawmakers can falter. Cultural voices can claim the authority to redefine marriage, erase the meaning of male and female, weaken parental rights, and deny protection to unborn children.
In moments like that, it can feel as though Caesar still rules.
But Easter reminds us otherwise.
The resurrection tells us that the state is not sovereign. Government has a role, and it is a serious one, but it is not God.
It does not create truth.
It does not define reality.
It does not bestow dignity.
It cannot rewrite the moral order established by the Lord of heaven and earth.
That means our work is never an act of panic. It is an act of witness.
We defend life because Christ is Lord.
We defend marriage and family because Christ is Lord.
We defend parental rights and religious liberty because Christ is Lord.
The resurrection has already settled the deepest question in history: who reigns?
The answer is not found in Washington, in state capitals, or in any courtroom. The answer is found in an empty tomb.
As Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18)
That is the hope of Easter.
Christ has risen. Christ is reigning. And because He lives, we can stand with courage, conviction, and hope.
This Easter, we remember that Caesar is not lord. Jesus Christ is.
