This Is Not a Babylon Bee Headline: Kyle Mann Is Coming to Cheyenne

The Babylon Bee once ran a headline announcing that Snopes had rolled out a new fact-check rating: “False For Now.”

That’s the joke. It’s also how the Bee actually works. They publish something absurd, everyone laughs, and then reality wanders over and quietly makes it true.

And the man who signs off on those headlines is coming to make us laugh in Cheyenne on Friday, September 25.

The Man Behind “Fake News You Can Trust”

Babylon Bee editor-in-chief Kyle Mann has spent years approving thousands of headlines engineered to be transparently fake and uncomfortably accurate at the same time. Applying that same brand of quirky satire, he has written or co-authored The Sacred Texts of The Babylon Bee, How to Be a Perfect Christian, and The Postmodern Pilgrim’s Progress.

The Bee gets flagged as actual misinformation on a semi-regular basis, which is roughly like reporting a magician for fraud. The New York Times once called it a site trafficking in misinformation “under the guise of satire,” then had to run a correction. The correction was funnier than most things published on purpose.

So why hand the microphone to a guy who writes jokes?

“I think every age is going to raise up people who want to communicate truth in the way that God has gifted us. And for us it just happens to be humor and satire.”

Because satire only works if somebody did the thinking first. Mann has described the Bee’s own limit plainly: “there are true things that we won’t make fun of.” The jokes go after how people behave, not after what they believe. His sharpest material is frequently pointed at us, at the ways Christians mistake performance for faithfulness. A man who titles a book How to Be a Perfect Christian is not running up the score on the other team.

That’s the night we’re planning. Funny, honest, and worth wearing your best bolo tie and boots for.
