AN ACT relating to public health and safety; requiring the licensure of surgical abortion facilities as specified; requiring licensed physicians to perform abortions; providing criminal penalties for violations; specifying civil liability for damages resulting from abortions; providing definitions; making conforming amendments; specifying applicability; requiring reports; requiring rulemaking; and providing for an effective date.

WFA COMMENTARY:

Wyoming Family Alliance supports legislation to ensure that abortion facilities performing life-threatening procedures should have licensed physicians and facilities that meet stringent health requirements.

WFA UPDATES:

3/4/24 – This legislation has passed both chambers and is headed to the Governor’s desk for his signature!

2/28/24 – Yesterday, this legislation passed through the bill’s first reading on the Senate side of the Legislature. This means that the bill only needs to be heard and passed two more times before it goes to the Governor to sign!

Senator Brian Boner passed a wonderful amendment that clarified and strengthened the bill. Senator Boner (R- SD 2, Converse, Natrona Counties) has been a powerful advocate for life during his time in the Legislature. (Click to watch this Committee Meeting.)

2/27/24 – The bill was introduced in the Senate and referred to the Senate Labor, Health, and Social Services Committee, where it will be heard Wednesday morning.

2/23/24 – This legislation completed all the steps in the House of Representatives with a final vote of 53-9 in support. It is now ready for introduction in the Senate.
